A lot of what you find in your cupboards, wardrobes and toy-boxes was made overseas. International trade has many benefits and contributes to improving the lives of millions of people across the world.
But it can have a dark side. Many developing countries, already burdened with their own internal issues - like corruption and frequent natural disasters - come to the international negotiating table as price takers. To fulfill their contracts they use the cheapest means of production available which often has negative impacts on the people involved and the environment. The status quo is difficult to change.
'Fair trade and ethically made' proves that greater justice in the world is possible. It gives people like you a way to do something that makes a difference.
It gives you a way to do A Little Good.
Fair trade and ethically made shifts the imbalance because it provides people along the supply chain with fair treatment, appropriate working conditions and a decent income. It gives people more say in their future and it protects the environment where people live and work.
The World Fair Trade Organisation has set out 10 principles that guide fair trade:
Everything you buy at A Little Good is fair trade/ ethically made by people, mostly women, from all over the world. They receive a fair wage and good working conditions. As our shop grows, expect to see more and more countries represented.
Everyone behind these gifts has their own story to tell, however they're all connected by an ambition to create beautiful products and earn a living to provide for themselves and their families. Just like you and me.
